Mini-Review: Top Product for Thin Hair

I am basically the poster child for thin hair so, I am constantly searching for hair products that are not heavy or oily – including shampoo and conditioner. Coming out of the winter, my hair was screaming for moisture and, therefore, overproducing oil. I couldn’t wash my hair fast enough. In addition, every shampoo I used would just way it down and leave my hair feeling completely unwashed. But, I have finally found the shampoo and conditioner that is PERFECT for my hair: Pantene’s Pro-V Aqua Light Shampoo and Conditioner.

This shampoo and conditioner literally brought my hair back from the dead in just two washes. Also, I can put quite a bit of conditioner on the ends of my hair and it will not get too oily (which is a problem I run into often).

The product is made with no silicones, parabens or dyes. I always swore that sulfate-free hair products were the way to go for my hair, but I have been convinced that silicone-free is the true secret weapon for us fine-haired beauties.

If you use this shampoo, let me know what you think. Or, if you have already found your savior, please let me know – I can never have too many helpers!

Review: Battle of the Mascaras

Hi everyone! I recently picked up an amazing value set at Sephora. For just $25 (which is the average price of mascara) I got five different deluxe samples of mascara. Unfortunately, Sephora does not carry this set anymore, but I thought I would take the opportunity to review the mascaras for you because they are all quite popular. For each mascara I curled my lashes with my Shu Uemura curler and wore each mascara for about 11-12 hours each day. I am also going to talk about the removal of each product, as I use makeup wipes to remove my makeup so being able to take off products easily is important for me.

First up is Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes. This mascara is great for curl and length. It doesn’t add as much volume, but I definitely get a nice, long curl that lasts all day. This is extremely easy to remove, but does not flake or wear off throughout the day, which is basically the best of both worlds.

Blinc’s mascara was definitely a new concept for me. The product uses ‘tube technology’ to literally coat each lash in a waterproof casing. This is important to know before using the product so you do not end up like I did in a panic thinking your lashes are falling off as you remove the product. This mascara is great for the summer time if you want natural looking, waterproof lashes. I would not use it for a dramatic look only because it does not provide a ton of volume or length.

Lancôme’s Hypnôse Drama mascara is definitely a strong contender. My favorite thing about the mascara is the brush. It has a curved wand, which really helps with the curl. I use this mascara for more dramatic, nighttime looks because it provides the most length and volume so my lashes are visible in front of lots of eyeshadow. It also wears for a very long time, as you can see in the photos, and it is extremely easy to remove, especially for a very dramatic mascara.

BareMinerals’ Lash Domination mascara is not one of my favorites, but I do like it very much. This product is great for a simple look. It wears terrifically, as you can see, and it provides both volume and length. But, it’s not amazing. I would not choose this mascara first only because there are others that have the same features, but better.

And the winner is Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara! I absolutely love this product. It is a triple threat: volume, length and curl. It makes my lashes so long and thicker, which is important for me because I have relatively thin lashes. It wears nicely and does not flake or smudge. And it is the easiest of the five to remove with makeup wipes. It does not get much better than this.

Review: Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eye Liner

I recently picked up the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama gel eyeliner. The liner comes like most high end gel liners: in a small pot with a brush. The product claims to be smudge proof and waterproof for 24 hours, oil-free, and safe for sensitive eyes. For ten dollars, you get .106 oz. of the gel liner, which is a great deal considering most high end gel liners cost twenty-five dollars for the same amount of product.

My experience using the liner has been wonderful; it does everything it claims to do, and it is incredibly easy to apply. I use my own eyeliner brush from Tarte, just because that’s what I am used to using, and I am able to apply the thinnest line of eyeliner I have ever seen. At the same time, the liner easily builds and can create a thick line, perfect for smudging into a smokey eye. I was even able to create this Lorde eye look for Valentine’s day.

In terms of wear, I have worn the eyeliner for an entire day (first applying my Benefit Stay Don’t Stray eye primer) and it did not smudge for fade at all. The only issue I saw was a tiny, faded line that had transferred from my lash line to the crease of my eyelid. But, this happens every time I wear eyeliner (I have pretty hooded eyelids) and it is usually a lot worse than what happened with the Maybelline liner.

When I bought the eyeliner, I was a little hesitant because it is waterproof. Now, I know waterproof is usually a blessing, but when it comes to eyeliner I am not a fan. Most of my eyeliners are extremely difficult to remove and they are NOT waterproof. I use the Simple Skincare Radiance Cleansing Wipes so, I try not to use any products that are difficult to remove in order to reduce irritation from rubbing the wipes on my eyes. Luckily, the Maybelline gel eyeliner comes off as easily as my eyeshadows, which is a dream. That is not to say that it is not waterproof. I cannot definitely say if it is waterproof or not because I have not gone swimming (there is snow on the ground) and I have rubbed it with my fingers and it did not move.

Regardless, I definitely recommend the Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama gel eyeliner. It is affordable and acts just like a high end eyeliner, but is smoother and easier to apply and remove. I will absolutely repurchase this product; it is my new go-to eye makeup product.

Review: Garnier Miracle Skin Perfecter BB Cream

They are not joking when they say “Miracle”! This product has literally changed my life. The packaging says it is supposed to even tone, hydrate, renew, protect, and brighten. (Let me just say right now – yes, all of these things happen.) It comes in four shades, and I think they are all quite versatile and can be worn on many different skin colors. The coverage is great for my skin type; I would not suggest replacing a foundation with the BB cream, but that pretty much goes for every BB cream.

Now the miracle part. I will start out by saying that my skin is pretty clear; I have horrible acne scars around my mouth and I tend to break out often in my t-zone. Aside from that, I don’t really have any major skin problems. This BB cream, after ONE – I repeat, ONE – use, my acne scars were gone. I don’t mean almost gone, or faded, or ‘going away’, I mean 100% gone, disappeared, vanished. And my skin is getting increasingly healthier as I continue to wear it. Do I need to say more?

So, although the BB cream is not as much coverage as a foundation, it will treat your skin so that you do not need foundation. On the skin, it is great coverage and does cover blemishes and gives my skin a nice glow. My skin, especially in the winter, is rather pale, but my skin, in general, is naturally a bit tanned. Regardless, I cannot stand my skin looking too pale, and this BB cream adds just enough color to my face so that it looks completely natural, but I still get that little bit of a bronzed glow.

Incase you cannot tell, I am obsessed with this product. I have no regrets and I recommend it to EVERYONE. Go buy it immediately. It is $13 at any drugstore, and Ulta. Please try it out and let me know if you agree. Thanks so much for reading!

Review: Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips

After searching high and low for this product at my local drugstores, it finally arrived at Target! I have had the original Lip Therapy for a while and have not been too pleased, so I figured this one would be better (I do not know what my logic was). The original Lip Therapy did absolutely nothing for me. I saw no improvement and the consistency was just horrendous. My lips felt so heavy and sticky after applying the Lip Therapy and I was receiving no benefits from it.

I bought the Rosy Lips Lip Therapy because I figured it would be less tacky and a little more moisturizing. The Rosy Lips is not nearly as sticky and heavy as the original Lip Therapy, but it does have its flaws. It still makes my lips uncomfortable, but not to the point where I cannot stand wearing it. Also, it does not have the best results; I could wear this if my lips are a little dry, but if they are stinging and I am going out in the cold, this would not be my best option. Though, I do love the pink tint it gives my lips. I think the best way to wear the Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Lips is as a lip balm. Because of the texture of Vaseline products, it adds extra shine to the lips, as well as a beautiful, subtle pink color. I would say, for the price ($2), it is a good purchase as a backup balm to carry incase your favorite is lost or forgotten.

Review: Neutrogena Facial Cleansing Bar

All my life I have been battling acne ferociously. Finally, about two years ago, I got my skin under control and could reduce my breakouts significantly. Nightly, I use Acanya gel, but that has never done the complete job for me. I dance three nights a week, so I sweat a lot and I, obviously, wear makeup so I figured I needed a general cleanser to use every night. Well, I tried everything! Nothing really left my face spotless and really feeling 100% clean. The cleansers I had been trying were all either “oil-free” or “for dry skin”-something specific to a skin type.

Then, last week, I realized that I don’t need a specific type of facial cleanser I just need plain old soap to get out all the dirt that collects on my face throughout the day. That is when it hit me! I need a bar of soap for my face. So I quickly did a little research on the best facial soaps and the top two I found most popular were Dove and Neutrogena. So I ran into ShopRite (grabbed some Girl Scout cookies) and picked up the Neutrogena Facial Cleansing Bar. I wanted to get the Dover bar too, but yhey did not have it so, instead, I got the Clean and Clear facial cleanser.

I have not yet tried the Clean and Clear cleanser because I started with the Neutrogena soap and I do not want to stop using it. Every time I use it my face feels like there is not a single piece of dirt on it. I bought it last Saturday and since then I got two pimples, but the areas where I always have constant acne are clearing up magically. Plus, the two pimples are already gone. Also, my skin has always been equally dry and oily in different areas so it has been so difficult for me to find an adequate cleanser. The Neutrogena cleanser really helps to even out my complexion and I do notve any more problems with the texture of my skin. I think what happens is that the soap dries my skin just a little so that when I moisturize it does not make my skin too oily-it is perfect.

Let me know what you use! Or, if you have tried this let me know what you think! Thanks for reading!!!
